Today I checked my email and to my surprise I had 4 domain name offers! 3 from Afternic.com & 1 from Sedo.com. I will enter into a negotiation with these potential buyers and will see how it goes. I am not interested in the offered prices (all bellow US $1,000), but I will see how much I can negotiate. if I do sell some of these domains I will post them here with the selling price.
Just on a side note, this week I have sold the domain name podcasts.info at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. New York City domain name auction. I haven’t received my funds yet, but it may take some time for the transaction to conclude.
I was not very happy with the selling price, I should have put a higher reserve price, but on the brighter side it was the only .info sold at the silent auction
Yesterday I joined The Tokyo Small Business Meetup. about 13 enthusiastic entrepreneurs had attended the meetup.
Max Hodges, Publisher of White Rabbit Press, introduced his company with his business partner Tomoko Okazaki. it was interesting to hear from an established (in US) and successful company. They introduced their Kanji & hiragana learning cards and shared some of their business plans.
The second speaker was Michiko Nakayama, organizer of the Tokyo Real Estate Buying & Investing Meetup Group. she discussed her group and her business plans. Here introduction was more like a sales pitch promoting here group and here business, but in a friendly way.
The real estate buying & Investing she talked about is very much like domain name buying and investing. She buys properties in depressed markets and rents them. once the market recovers, she sells the property. I do the same thing with domain names. I pick up domain names in not yet very popular extensions (.mobi, .jp, .info), I monetize these domains using parking providers and sell them once the right price is offered.
Donald Nordeng the organizer of the meetup, had asked me to present my business next month. still I am not sure what I will talk about, but I will see. hopefully I can add some value to the meetup & get some constructive feedback.
Today morning NHK guys came to my house. Obviously i am not paying the TV license, but then why should I? I don’t watch TV anymore, leave alone NHK.
that brings me to think about how I moved from the traditional media to the digital media. I spend a lot of time in front of my computer reading blogs, joining discussion forums, watching videos and listening to podcasts. I am now having the power to see & read what I am really interested in, and i have no intention to revert that trend.
I don’t trust TV anymore, or at least i came to realise that TV is not a trustworthy source of information. Most TV programs seem to be biased, or at least the Japanese ones. I somehow agree that TV companies have to generate revenue, but nowadays, programs are made just to promote sponsor’s products and services! they are no longer interested in providing valuable information & staying neutral (if they ever did). more than that, people are falling for their pray & blindly believe in everything they see on TV! my wife included!
Finally i decided to put my thoughts online. I resisted the idea for a long time, but here i am plunging!
Recently, I am feeling in need to let my thoughts out. I am having less and less constructive discussions. Most people around me tend either to agree with my opinion or don’t care much about having a descent discussion. Everybody is busy with his own life & care less about what is going on around.
I don’t have a specific theme or subject that i want to write about. i will just post anything that seems worth talking about. hopefully someone, somewhere will find it interesting enough to read it or even comment on it. I will try to be careful about my religious & political posts. you never know when you gona offend someone.
